Consensus Building Meetings

In addition as a response to the residents need to see some progress on the project a revised format of workshops in the form of “consensus meeting(s)” were held at the two ends of the project site. The consensus meetings shared the documentation and ensuing alternatives for possible solutions in various areas of intervention (physical infrastructure, legal, management related)
It was in these workshops that the conflicts caused by car parking and encroachment were discussed. The view of attendees was strongly in favour of removal of encroachments. It was also recognized that cars that would be displaced from their present parking locations, in order to make way for pedestrian and NMT paths, would require alternative locations for parking. Car owners are prepared to pay rental for secure parking arrangement even if it may be at a distance from their homes/ shops. Coordination with infrastructure of drainage electricity waste disposal etc. Was found to be an important aspect of ROW designs.
